Premonitions was recorded during the early months of 2008 at Historiegränd 8B, Umeå, Sweden. It was mixed, re-mixed and gone over as thoroughly as possible with GarageBand and was produced, engineered and conceived in its entirety by Phil Creswell. All music was written and performed by Phil Creswell.
From the liner notes:
“Premonitions is a story about humanity, or more appropriately, a story about inhumanity and what we, as humans, are capable of doing to others who are considered to be our ‘brothers and sisters,’ at least in the eyes of a ‘God fearing’culture. It is also the classic tale of man versus himself. I worked very hard to make it a story of insanity, and yet clarity, while of course maintaining the fictional aspects of what was originally intended to be a short story, novel or, maybe even a full-length film. Until “Premonitions” was written, I’d never been able to actually put it all together in one or another form.
Writing a concept album is actually a lot harder than it sounds. Sure, you’ve got an overarching storyline to work from, but how do you do it? Some of the great albums of all time are concept albums–Seventh Son of a Seventh Son by Iron Maiden, The Wall by Pink Floyd, or Still Life by Opeth. These records tug at the strings of one’s mind, and it’s very difficult to see, sometimes, how all the pieces fit together. What method does one use? I chose the ‘images of a moment’ method, which I think is the easiest to do in song form.
In the end, I think this record was really put together with story in mind. I hope that it appeals to your sensibilities as fiction lovers as well as music lovers.”
